START is a large multi-centre research study which utilises state of the art neuroimaging to study acute stroke therapy, its prevention and its impact. It comprises two major studies; EXTEND (Extending The Time for Thrombolysis in Emergency Neurological Deficit) and PrePARE (Prediction and Prevention to Achieve Optimal Recovery Endpoints after Stroke).
START is a collaboration between a number organisations and institutions; the National Stroke Research Institute, the CSIRO, the University of Melbourne, Neurosciences Victoria, Neuroscience Trials Australia, Melbourne Health and the Brain Research Institute.
In May 2011, Professor Geoff Donnan spoke to the ABC about this research.
Several Taiwanese sites are opening for recruitment as part of the larger EXTEND international collaboration.
All 20 sites across Australia and New Zealand are now initiated and open for recruitment. A wonderful achievement, thanks to the support of the broader START-EXTEND team.
