START is a large multi-centre research study which utilises state of the art neuroimaging to study acute stroke therapy, its prevention and its impact. It comprises two major studies; EXTEND (Extending The Time for Thrombolysis in Emergency Neurological Deficit) and PrePARE (Prediction and Prevention to Achieve Optimal Recovery Endpoints after Stroke).
START is a collaboration between a number organisations and institutions; the National Stroke Research Institute, the CSIRO, the University of Melbourne, Neurosciences Victoria, Neuroscience Trials Australia, Melbourne Health and the Brain Research Institute.

The 110th patient was randomised by China Medical University Hospital in Taiwan on the 17th August 2015. There are now 11 sites open for recruitment in Taiwan.
